Apartment Hunting Checklist

What is an apartment hunting checklist, and why should you use one? Hunting for an apartment can be a long and confusing process. After a while, every apartment starts to look very much the same… "gee, was the one on Vine Street a studio or a 1 bedroom?" You can save yourself a lot of trouble if you make out an apartment hunting checklist before you go to see even that very first apartment.

An apartment hunting checklist is simple. Just make a blank list of such features as "bedrooms," "closet space," "kitchen facilities," "A/C," or anything else that is important to you in making a decision. Don't forget such details as "pet-friendly?" or "parking availability" if they apply to you. Take a blank copy of the checklist with you to each apartment showing, and write the apartment address and landlord phone number at the top. This will make it much easier to compare apartments and see which is the best value.
